More Big Brother Tactics from the FDA

The following editorial appeared in the Townsend Newsletter for Doctors and Patients and was written by my good friend, nutritional medicine guru Alan Gaby, MD

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has a long history of causing needless human suffering by restricting the availability of safe and effective natural remedies. Now they have outdone even themselves, with a burst of idiocy and totalitarianism that should lead any thinking person to question their legitimacy as a governing agency.

On December 28, 2010, the FDA demanded an immediate cessation of the manufacturing and distribution of three nutritional products designed for (intravenous) administration: Vitamin C, magnesium and vitamin B complex.

Although all of these products have been in wide use for decades, and have long been granted “grandfather” status, the FDA has now inexplicably reclassified them as “unapproved new drugs”.

High-dose intravenous vitamin C has been found by many practitioners to be effective in the treatment of acute viral hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis, other viral diseases, some bacterial infections, and various allergic disorders. Case reports suggest that high-dose intravenous vitamin C can prolong life and occasionally even induce remission in cancer patients. In addition, high-dose intravenous vitamin C may accelerate recovery in patients with extensive burns.

Intravenous magnesium has been demonstrated in research studies to abort acute asthma attacks and acute migranes. Intravenous magnesium has been used successfully by some practitioners to treat angina and congestive heart failure.

All three of the newly banned injectable products are components of the “Myers cocktail” which has been used safely and effectively by hundreds or even thousands of practitioners for a wide range of clinical conditions. Disorders that have been observed to respond to the Myers cocktail include chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, acute asthma attacks, acute migranines, muscle spasm, seasonal allergic rhinitis, upper respiratory tract infections and some cases of depression.

When used appropriately, all of these banned products are extremely safe, much safer than many drugs that have been approved by the FDA to treat the same conditions that respond to the banned injectable nutrients!

Many people will be harmed, and some will die, as a result of this egregious FDA ruling.

And no one will benefit. That is, no one except the pharmaceutical industry, with which the FDA has been engaged in a longstanding clandestine sexual relationship.

Congress should launch an immediate investigation of this incompetent and high-handed action by the FDA< and it should strip the agency of its authority to play Big Brother over grandfather.

The president should “pardon” the condemned vitamins and minerals. All who work at the FDA should hang their heads in shame, because government agencies should serve, not injure, their constitutents.

And those at the FDA should pray that they and their loved ones do not develop chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, asthma, migraines, or any of the other conditions that respond so well to the treatments they have taken from us.

Dr. Jonny Comments: Though many readers of this newsletter have probably not have experience with the injectable forms of these vitamins (I have- for years), don’t think you’re not affected. The FDA consistently engages in this kind of BS, arbitrarily pouncing on supplement companies and practitioners of natural medicine, usually at the urging of their pals in Big Pharma. These practices have been detailed in book after book and paper after paper. The FDA is not there to protect your health- it’s there to protect the interests of Big Pharma. Make no mistake about it. Today it’s injectable vitamin C , but tomorrow it could be your vitamin C pill!

Hello. A friend brought your name up in conversation and I love, LOVE, love your “150 Healthiest Foods.” Especially liked the chapter on soy. May I interview you?

Great article, many thanks Jonny B!

Why is it that any substance that successfully treats any kind of disorder is automatically a drug? If the majority of people just stepped back and took a critical look at things, they’d want to throw these FDA morons out into the street where they belong! The FDA makes things this way because they can’t patent a vitamin or mineral and make truckloads of cash on it like they can with prescription drugs.

The FDA and Big Pharma want everyone to be on expensive drugs for the rest of their lives to protect profits. If people were to eat well and use natural supplements, it would kill big pharma.
As far as I’m concerned, FDA officials should be jailed for crimes against humanity.
Personally, at age 55 – I don’t take any prescription drgus, and I will do everything I can to keep it that way.

As most of you know, I follow the rulings of the FDA which I believe is an extremely corrupt organization that is in bed with Big Pharma and the Processed Food Industry. Their laws that govern our health decisions are always in favor of the above interests over our health. This following procedure was used by our Naturopathic Doctor and literally saved Summers’ life after all other “Doctors” sent her home to die. I am outraged over this latest ruling that will only result in needless suffering and death while filling the bloated coffers of Big Pharma. I’m also sick of the “revolving door” of people from the FDA to Big Pharma and vice versa. It is not only a conflict of interest, it should be criminal. I urge you, for your own sake, and the sake of your loved ones, to contact your representatives and demand an investigation into this out of control – funded by us – organization.

Hi Jonny, and Thank you so much for all your Info and work you put into this, It is Very sad indeed when People try to Suppress the Health of Others for the Interests of GREED, There is a saying, “WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN TO GAIN ALL THE EARTH AND YET LOSE HIS SOUL?” Well i think these Greed worshiping Tyrants have lost theirs a long time ago, because it appears, THEY HAVE NO SOUL. m.c.

This article is not accurate. IV magnesium is part of the American Heart Association ACLS protocol and used CURRENTLY on a daily basis. It is still used in hospitals in the state of FL to treat patients with low magnesium. Some where down the line the facts about magnesium have been sorely confused.

How can we stop this insanity? What do we do? It is crazy for sure that the FDA stops natural products while allowing new pharmaceuticals to come onto the market “unproven”. Only to take them off the market a year later after they kill 1000s of people. Why are humans the guinea pigs of Big Pharma, and why does the government allow it? How do we stop this abuse of power?

Don’t bother calling 911 then if you are clenching your chest – intravenous magnesium is a standard first response in patients with cardio trauma in just about any hospital. It is a fully integrated part of allopathic medicine, not just naturopathic medicine.

The FDA can be reined in. Recently the House votes to ban approval of genetically engineered salmon http://t.co/WmhOgDP . Interestingly this little gem of information received virtually NO media coverage in the US. I reckon it will be similar with the content of the article above. Posting it here is not enough.

Why not make a statement of the offenses and nonsensical actions of the FDA with a state of possible revamping of it to be better in response to the needs of consumers who want to be healthy and not to big PHARMA / AGRA business. And then start start a petition signing of concerned people mail to to all government represenatives who make our laws and wish to reelected.
    Thanks, Lee DuBon

Sharon, just because it is already part of the protocol does not necessarily exclude it from this craziness. The article does not say that this will happen effective immediately. Jonny, any way a source for this can be posted, or a link to it? Thanks.
