How Celebrity Moms (Really) Lose the Baby Weight
Ever wonder how so many celebrities can transform back to skinny and sexy right after having a baby? Does this leave you frustrated? In this guest article my friend and colleague Ray Salomone - The Wellness Crusader reveals the un-natural Hollywood secrets that make these post-partum transformations possible.
A combination of many emails and my brewing disgust at the celebrity magazines and their coverage of "How I Lost The Baby Weight" have compelled me to finally expose the sham behind what has frustrated women all over the world.
Remember, I train celebrities and I am forced at times to put up with their unbelievable nonsense. So here's the deal.
When a celebrity gives birth (often by a scheduled, voluntary c-section) many immediately receive a tummy tuck. Once they are home, they bring in their (already assembled and waiting in the wings) team of professionals whose sole duty is to get the celeb back into red carpet shape. Often a publicity deal is already in the works with a magazine selected to cover her miraculous return to the spot light.
This team is made up a personal trainer, a masseuse, yoga instructor, Pilates instructor, nutritionist and personal chef. More often than not, little pills are often taken. (Remember the Rolling Stones song, Mother's Little Helper?) They devote their entire day to this. Every other annoyance is taken care for them. Changing diapers? Please!
Losing sleep? Makes for a great sound bite but it's not the truth.
During this 4-6 week hunker down, the new baby is rarely seen. The child is in the care of a full time staff.
(Note: When a celebrity says "my baby sitter" what she really means is
"My full time nannies")
Also- notice how they all say, "Breastfeeding helped me to lose the weight." Yeah right! Breastfeeding and weight loss has NO connection. Most of them couldn't be bothered to breast feed anyway. The horror!
So ladies, please give yourself a break. It took you nine months to gain the weight, give yourself nine months to lose it. Believe nothing you read in the magazines. Enjoy the experience of your newborn. Eat healthfully. Exercise when you can. As the weeks and months go by, your baby will get into a routine, and then so can you. And now you can have your sanity back on this issue.

Thank you for this, Jonny! Not only are their methods unhealthy, they are totally unrealistic. It's about time everyone knew the truth!
Thank you for this article!!
As a mother of a 6 month old baby boy, I'm in pretty good shape at this point with just 8 pounds of extra baby weight hanging around, but I've been feeling bad about myself because of those damn celebrities and their skinny pictures!
Thank you for exposing the truth. Awesome article.
I have been through 6 births and every time, eating well - I mean really well, puts you back to your normal self, and it doesn't take 9 months. No super-foods needed. If you don't put on too much excess you melt back into shape within 3-4 months or less. Animal food eaters take much longer to recover.
Thanks so much. Your words do so much for this mother of a 7 month old. I have 15 lbs to lose and I've been feeling just awful that I haven't achieved it yet. It helps to hear that the fact that it isn't off yet doesn't mean that I won't be able to get it off!
Thanks again!
Thanks Jonny,
I pretty much knew all of this, so no surprise.
I supposed the attitude is, if you have enough money, why not?
I lost my baby weight with my guys in the jogging stroller, walking up and down our neighborhood hills twice a day and cutting out sugar.
(My guys are now 18 and 14...still have the weight off).
Thanks again for all you do.
Your article lost me when you stated that breast feeding and weight loss have no connection. I think women should understand that celebrities have a lot of help when it comes to getting back into shape, but breast feeding does in fact lend a hand to weight loss as it burns about 400 calories alone to breast feed a newborn baby & it helps shrink the uterus. A lot of women would jump on board with breast feeding if they knew about the health benefits for both mother and child.
I was my pre-baby weight in four weeks with the help of healthy eating, chasing after my 1.5 year old while nursing a newborn. To suggest that breast feeding doesn't help get a woman back into shape is pretty inaccurate.
Well, the bit about breastfeeding is not totally accurate. Milk production requires between 500-700 calories a day. So it does have an effect on weight loss after pregnancy, but that seems to be the body's harmonious balance - you put on weight to support a growing baby inside, and then use up those fat stores in supporting a growing baby on the outside.
I dropped all of my baby weight after my son was born and I didn't change my eating habits - but I did breastfeed for 9 months.
Actually, breastfeeding has been shown to help women lose weight after giving birth. There is no eating for two, never was. First don't gain more then the recommended amount of weight. Second exercise when you are pregnant and third, exercise after the baby comes and eat healthy. If you do those things, the weight will adjust. It shouldn't be about weight, it should be about health.
Just to add my experience to the breastfeeding debate, my tum snapped right back into shape a few months into breastfeeding with no excercise beyond looking after baby and you would never I've ever had a baby. As far as myself and friends read in our pregnancy advice books it's medically proven that breastfeeding gives you back your waistline.Of course it's not going to work if you overeat or eat the wrong foods which you wouldn't be doing as a responsible breastfeeder anyway.During the pregnancy I did not 'eat for two'but just ate my usual vegetarian wholefood diet as per normal.
