Hats off to Michael Eades- read this blog!

Today, I just want to take my hat off to my friend Mike Eades, M.D. and point you to his blog and shut up. There’s no need to re-invent the wheel, especially when it’s made of gold.

I do however want to share with you my letter to my friend Mike about his blog.

“Dear Mike,

Your piece on Jane Brody today was particularly poignant for me. I frequently find myself stifling some of my more pugilistic tendencies when it comes to speaking out against public idiocy, largely out of an ill-advised desire to remain “objective”, “impartial”, “above-the-fray” and “respectable”. However this posture not only doesn’t suit me personally, it’s inauthentic, and I have you to thank for helping me realize it.

The truth is this: When it comes to nutrition, Jane Brody is an idiot. She is a know-nothing who repeats any crap the American Dietetic Association tells her, she’s incapable of reading or understanding complexity of thought, and she’s not much better than a paid shill for the worst elements of the dietary establishment and the American Medical Association. She's basically the Nutritional Antichrist. How she keeps her job at the same paper that employs real thinkers and contributors like Tom Friedman, Paul Krugman and the great Nicholas Kristoff is beyond me. To me that’s like hiring Soupy Sales to be on the same panel as George Will. Thanks for being brave enough to point out that the emperor not only doesn’t have any clothes, she also doesn’t look particularly good naked.

PS Sometimes some of us need to be reminded to grow some cajones.

Dear Jonny

I read your review the Fat Flush Plan by Ann Louise Gittleman. I was first offended because I AM a dietitian and I believe in many of the concepts that ALG has proposed in her book. Not ALL dietitians think that it's the food guide pyramid or the highway- some of us believe that there are A LOT of unknowns. I am a recent graduate of a masters degree program and I have read her book. I think that, like with any diet including those proposed by our government, there are holes and unsolidified claims, however that there are many things that could be of great help. I just don't appreciate being clumped in with your "fundamentalists" because those are the people who are never open to new ideas and theories- thats just not me and it's just not a lot of the new era dietitians!
