Almost everyone can benefit from the power of digestive enzymes. Many people — particularly advocates of raw food — point out that there is a great energy cost to the body in having to produce so many enzymes which are typically lacking in our food. Others believe that a reduced store of enzymes is a major factor in aging and in degenerative diseases. Finally, from a purely scientific point of view, most of us become less efficient at manufacturing hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes as we get older, compromising our ability to absorb and utilize nutrients. Whatever your reason, supplemental digestive enzymes are a very wise idea. I recommend them with every meal.
