Jonny's Back!

No, I didn't drop off the planet, just in case you were wondering. But I did take a temporary break from the blogosphere.

Why, you ask?

I've been busy writing and recording. And now I am so happy to be able to announce the completion of three CD sets that I honestly think is the best work I've ever done. I'll be telling you more about them in the newsletter, but briefly, they combine motivation, life change, personal power and transformation with weight loss and nutrition. To put it in Hollywood "pitch" terms, they're kind of "Tony Robbins meets Body By Jake." I really hope you like them, and I invite you to share with me your thoughts about any or all of them. I really hope they make a difference in your life.

I've also been working on my new book, the manuscript for which was just completed and which will be published by FairWinds and out in January. It's called "The 150 Healthiest foods on the Planet" and it's been an eye-opener to write. Doing all the research on all the foods, separating fact from fiction, myth from reality (especially when it comes to all the "superfood" juices marketed by the multi-levels, like goji, acai, noni, etc), and making White Castle Burgers out of some seriously sacred cows was actually a lot of fun, not to mention an educational experience. I hope to bring you some highlights on the website over the next few months.

The non-Jonny fans who buy the book expecting a standard encyclopedia of "healthy foods" will be in for a shock. (Those of you who know and hopefully like me will be less surprised). Only two members of the grain family made the cut, there are a couple of savage essays on dairy, and I go to great lengths to sort out the real meaning and significance of all the buzzwords, from "organic" to "free-range" to "grass-fed." Let me just say that I doubt the AMI (American Meat Institute) will be inviting me back to speak at their convention after this book comes out. And I'm sure I won't win over any fans from the moribound American Dietetic Assocation, but they already hate me anyway. Like I care.

I had great people contributing their wisdom, advice and recipes. One feature of the book is "top ten" lists — I called upon my "A" list of celebrity egg-heads (no pun intended) to submit their favorite top ten healthy foods — so you'll hear what Dr. Barry Sears, Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades, Ann Louise Gittleman, PhD, Dr. Steve Sinatra, Dr. Elson Haas, and many many others really eat! Regina Wilshire and Lora Ruffner did amazing work on the recipes, some of which I'll start featuring on the website in the next couple of months. And the one and only Dana Carpenter — who got me the book deal in the first place — created some super recipes just for this book.

So now I'm back, none too soon I might add, since we have a lot of work to do, starting with blowing out of the water the ridiculous anti-vitamin headlines that have peppered the news in the months I’ve been gone. I'll start with those next time.

But don't get me started.

Welcome back, Jonny. Your long silence had me concerned, but hearing that you were busy with the CDs and the book puts it into perspective. Good for you!

As a fan of your earlier books ("Shape Up" is brilliant and "LTLCL" started me on my 50 lb weight loss journey - it's been off for a year), you bet I'm looking forward to reading "The 150 Healthiest..."

Don't be a stranger to the blog. You've got a gift for breaking down complexity and debunking bad press accounts. We need more blogs like yours. Have a prodigious summer.

Woo Hoo!!! I can't wait for your next book. I already ordered my CD set and will write a review for you. Promise. I'd also like to pre-order "The 150 Healthiest Foods." How do I do that and can I have an autographed copy? :)
